More info...

  • Last week we announced the final addition to the schedule for the PHPNW conference – the “State of the Community” panel discussion. ย We’re now able to announce the people who will be on that panel!

If you have any questions for the panel, please add them into the comments on the announcement post. ย We’ll collate these and give them to the chairperson on the day. ย There are plenty of other things going on at the conference, if you have been hiding under a rock and missed what has been happening, you may like to take a look at the schedule – and then go and register for tickets ๐Ÿ™‚

  • We’re very happy to announce the final element in the schedule for the PHP North West conference in Manchester. ย This will be a panel discussion on the topic “State of the Community” and will bring together some of the leading lights of the community to discuss the PHP community as a whole, how people can get involved, and how the community relates to PHP as a day job. If there’s a question you’d like to see the panel answer, please post it in the comments below and we’ll include as many as we can!

  • We are very pleased to announce a fabulous addition to the conference tickets available for PHPNW, a PHP conference being held in Manchester, UK, on 22nd November. The wonderful people at php|architect have given a one year combined print and PDF subscription to the rather excellent php|architect magazine – for every attendee!! To buy this would cost 40 canadian dollars (it turns out that’s just over 20 quid in real money), and will keep us all up-to-date with our PHP skills long after the conference is over, so its a pretty good bonus.

If you haven’t bought your tickets yet – then go and register now, we’ll see you there ๐Ÿ™‚

(small print – we’ll give you a code at the conference that you can use to claim your subscription. This also applies to attendees who have already bought their tickets, don’t panic!)

  • The schedule is now online for PHPNW – there are a few slots still unconfirmed but this is the main body of the technical sessions that will be happening on the day. We’ve got some great sessions planned and we hope to see you on 22nd November 2008 in Manchester!

Update: All the speakers have now confirmed – it’s looking to be a great schedule. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • As conference time approaches feel free to come along to our next monthly meeting – we’re doing code reviews this month, bring your laptops (or at least usb keys).

  • The PHPNW call for papers is now closed!! We’d like to send a huge thankyou to everyone who submitted talks, the response has been absolutely phenomenal. After we’ve had a chance to make some decisions, we’ll be contacting speakers by email hopefully later in the week.

Watch this space for more information …

  • We’re pleased to announce that we have confirmed one of the keynote speakers for the PHP North West event – Derick Rethans will be giving his KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) talk. Derick is a long-time core contributor to PHP and an active speaker at conferences. He lives in Norway, works for eZ Systems and is the creator of Xdebug.

  • Today PHP North West featured on the O’Reilly GMT blog, with an article and video about the PHP North West conference in November.

This follows previous coverage on, zend devzone, and of course a lot of personal blogs as well – it looks like others are as excited as we are ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Several people have been asking how they can help out with the conference, a massive thank you for the offers!

With that in mind, here are some simple ways you may be able to assist. In no particular order:

    • Join in the Google Group phpnw, follow us on twitter, facebook, LinkedIn etc.
    • Get along to the monthly meetings before and after the conference
      • Volunteer to have an informal speaking slot
    • Use one of the logos to link to this site from yours
    • Blog about us (using phpnw08 as the tag), what you’re hoping for from the event, what it means to have this happening in your region, experiences from the meetings etc.
    • Get along to the conference, book your tickets as soon as we release them ๐Ÿ™‚
    • Answer the call for papers
    • Consider sponsoring the event

I’m sure the closer we get, there will be more specific requests such as help on the day – looking after speakers & keeping them aware of their slots, runners between venue areas, set up, set down etc.

Any other offers also welcome ๐Ÿ™‚
