Sponsors Announcement

Friday, September 4th, 2009

One of the things that really makes a conference like PHPNW09 a great event is the contribution from the many sponsors who get involved. The sponsors assistance helps to drive down the ticket costs and provide many of the extra things that are associated with the conference like speakers accommodation, wifi, food and drinks, bags, lanyards etc.

This year, we’re pleased to announce our Premier Sponsor is Microsoft. We’re very glad to have them on board to help make PHPNW09 a really great event.

We’re also glad to have as Executive Sponsors MySQL/Sun, nti Leeds and Solution Perspective Media.

Our other sponsors include TEK Systems, ibuildings, Methodosity, Pale Purple, Manchester Digital and Made By Pi. Also special mention to PHP|Architect who, for the second year running, are providing a years free subscription to PHP|Arch magazine for all delegates.

More details will follow from all the sponsors once we have them.

If you want to join in and help by sponsoring PHPNW09 add to a fantastic event, feel free to contact us at the conference [@] phpnw.org.uk address.

If on the other hand, you’re thinking about coming along on 10th October and haven’t already been convinced to get your ticket, then perhaps the support of the sponsors might be the final deciding factor. Get your tickets now before the early bird discount runs out.

PHPNW Schedule: What is missing?

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

So we’ve set the date, we’ve published the schedule, people are buying tickets and booking transport and accommodation … what else is there to do? Well – what else do you want to see?

This year PHPNW09 has an extended conference, with space on Sunday morning booked at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, which is an excellent day out in itself and is free entry. We’re putting out a call for suggestions on what should happen that day – so if there’s anything you want to do or learn, its time to make yourself heard.

Whether there’s a topic missing from the schedule, a talk you’d like to give yourself, or a workshop or round-table discussion you’d like to run, we want to hear about your ideas. We have 4 hours available so short and long sessions are all quite possible (an hour of lightning talks, anyone??).

Come on, tell us what you want!

  • leave a comment on this article
  • email talks@phpnw.org.uk
  • log in to irc.freenode.net, join #phpnw and tell us what you want to hear

See you in Manchester 🙂

PHPNW09 – Talk Schedule

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

Its been a busy week but the schedule for the main portion of the PHP North West conference in 2009 is complete! Without further ado – take a look!

We were overwhelmed with submissions, which would have been fine if they hadn’t all been SO GOOD. So – we’d like to extend very warm thanks to all those who contributed to the call for papers and who made the job of choosing what to include quite as difficult as it was. With 44 submissions for a schedule containing (after some stretching) 12 slots, inevitably there would be sessions that were easily good enough but just wouldn’t fit into the time available. The resulting line up is varied in topic, in speaker, and includes both the well-known and the not-yet-well-known, there’s some great content there.

If you haven’t signed up already, you can get your tickets (50 GBP + VAT for early bird) and join us!

Call for Papers now closed

Monday, August 17th, 2009

We just wanted to say a big thank you to all the people who’ve submitted papers for PHPNW09! The Call for Papers is now closed.

We’ve had over 40 high quality submissions and unfortunately there’s no way we could take everyone into the schedule. We’re now going through the submissions and will be contacting the successful speakers shortly. Once they confirm, we’ll be able to release the schedule to the public, so please bear with us a few days more – it will be worth the wait!

For now all we can say is that we’ve squeezed 12 talks into two tracks for what we believe will be a great conference. On that note, don’t forget to grab your tickets before the early bird offer runs out on the 11th September.

Conference Accommodation Options

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

There’s a page about accommodation on the PHPNW09 conference site to help out all those planning their weekends in Manchester in October – hope to see you there 🙂

Speaker Announcement: Kevlin Henney

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

While the call for papers is still on (add your submissions here), we’ve confirmed an invited keynote speaker for the PHPNW Conference. He is Kevlin Henney – author, speaker, consultant and trainer in all things software development related. Kevlin will kick off our day with his talk The Uncertainty Principle, and tell us why there are times when its good to be uncertain. Sounds like a great start to the day!

Check out last year's event while you wait for phpnw09

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

If you’re getting impatient waiting for the conference to come round on the 10th of October, then why not check out last years conference site or you can check out videos of most of the sessions from PHPNW08.

You can also come and visit us in the IRC chat room (#phpnw) on irc.freenode.net, there’s usually a fair few of us hanging out there.

We’re looking forward to seeing you at PHPNW09.

Conference logos and linking

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

As the phpnw09 conference approaches, one thing we’d love you to do is help promote it.

An excellent way to do this is to place one of these logos on your site and link to us at http://conference.phpnw.org.uk/phpnw09/.

You can either download the logos and host them on your own web space (as long as they’re only used for linking back to us) or just cut’n’paste the code below into your site.
