PHP North West Conference 2013 (PHPNW13)

Announcing Your Unconference Facilitator

We are delighted to announce the details of the PHPNW13 Unconference! This year, Kathryn Reeve will be your uncon Host and Chair. Kathryn is a long standing member of the local PHP community, if you’ve been at a PHP user group or conference around Manchester the likelihood is that you have already met her! Kathryn has also presented a talk at PHPNW10 on using Zend_tool.

Lightning Talks

Each talk will last for 20 minutes in length with 5 minutes at the end for Q&A. If you are attending the main conference weekend and would like to speak at the Uncon, submissions should be made to Kat as early as possible via uncon@phpnw.org.uk or on the Saturday morning of the conference. Lightning talks are a great way to get started if you’ve never done any public speaking before. It’s only 20 minutes, so we’re sure you can do it! It is a great way to practice your speaking and presentation skills. Now here is an awesome incentive for you:

For the first time, the lightning talk that is chosen as the best talk of the day at this years conference will receive a guaranteed speaker slot at PHPNW14 as part of the main conference.

Speed Geeking

The last hour of the Saturday will be reserved for’ Speed Geeking’. Read more about how this will work on the Unconference page. Let’s just say if you’re intimidated by 20 minutes, this is your opportunity to give one 5 minute talk 8 times. You can talk about your open source project, or why your dog is the best dog in the world! It really doesn’t matter, this is all about your opportunity to practice your presentational skills. If you are interested in stepping into the speaker circuit send an email to uncon@phpnw.org.uk. We are very excited about the PHPNW13 Unconference and we hope it will be a fast-paced and fun place to hang out.

Don’t forget we won’t be filming the unconference talks
