We are delighted to announce the details of our PHPNW14 Unconference sponsored by Magma Digital! This year, Clinton Ingrams and Antonis Pavlakis will be your Uncon Hosts and Chairs. Clinton and Antonis are long standing members of the local PHP community. Antonis organises usergroup meetings for PHP East Midlands and Clinton has been a speaker at many Conferences, including PHPNW13 where he presented a talk on Cyber Security.
Each talk will last for 20 minutes in length with 5 minutes at the end for Q&A. If you are attending the main conference weekend and would like to speak at the Uncon, submissions should be made to the hosts as early as possible via firstname.lastname@example.org or first thing on the Saturday morning of the conference.
Lightning talks are a great way to get started if you’ve never done any public speaking before. It’s only 20 minutes, so we’re sure you can do it! It is a great way to practice your speaking and presentation skills. Now here is an awesome incentive for you:
Similarly to last year, the lightning talk that is chosen as the best talk of the day at this year’s conference will receive a guaranteed speaker slot to present their Uncon talk at PHPNW15, as part of the main conference schedule.
The last hour of the Unconference will be reserved for ‘Speed Geeking’. Read more about how this will work on the Unconference page. Let’s just say if you’re intimidated by 20 minutes, this is your opportunity to give one 5 minute talk 8 times. You can talk about your open source project or why your dog is the best dog in the world! It really doesn’t matter, this is all about your opportunity to practice your presentation skills.
If you are interested in stepping into the speaker circuit send an email to email@example.com. We are very excited about the PHPNW14 Unconference and we hope it will be a fast-paced, fun place to hang out.
