PHP North West Conference 2015

PHPNW15 Hackathon

We hope you’re feeling excited! We are only three days away from the PHPNW15 main event! As we count down the days the anticipation is rising and we would like to let you know a little more information about the popular Friday night Hackathon and social that opens the conference weekend.

The Friday night Hackathon and social will begin at 19:00 on Friday 2nd October at The Manchester Conference Centre. If you have not yet booked your Hackathon ticket but wish to attend, you can still do this via your booking management URL, sent in your booking confirmation email, where you will have the option to book on to the Hackathon event. We recommend that you do this quickly, as the Hackathon is exceptionally popular and tickets are going fast!

Please remember to bring your ticket to the Hackathon, either printed or on your phone in order to gain entry. After this, you will then receive a Burger voucher which you will then be able to exchange for a free burger. You’ll also be able to purchase drinks from the bar that will be open during the evening. The Hackathon food has kindly been provided this year by our Gold Sponsor Magma Digital.

In a similar fashion to previous years, we have a few projects that you will be able to work on but if you would prefer to work on your own project then that is perfectly fine. If engaging in a Hackathon isn’t for you, there is no problem with just coming along to socialise, grabbing a burger and perhaps a beer or two with the other attendees.

Projects that are looking for input this year are the ever popular Joind.in. For more details on what they’re looking for see below:

PHPNW15 Hackathon Join.in. PHPExcel and due the proximity to the pending release, we’re planning on running a PHP7 area where you can get familiar with PHP7. Focussing on testing projects for PHP7 compatibility, and resolving any compatibility issues which crop up, it could potentially tie in with the other projects being worked upon which are represented during the evening as well.

So to dive in and hack along, just bring your laptop and your enthusiasm, the Open Source project co-ordinators with show you how to get started with contributing to their respective projects. If you’d like to get a project you’re involved with featured on the night and you’d be prepared to show other delegates how to get started adding code or other contributions, then just get in touch with us via  hackathon@phpnw.org.uk and we’ll be sure to encourage people to get involved.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday evening.
